Mashed Potatoes

Mashed Potatoes Recipe

  • 5 large potatoes (I prefer russet for this recipe)
  • 1 stick of butter or margarine (don’t use low-calorie spreads)
  • 2 tbsp milk or cream (don’t use low-calorie milk substitutes)

Step 1: Cook the Potatoes Peel and cut your potatoes into halves. Put them in a pot full of cold water. Bring water to boil over high heat then reduce heat to medium-high and cover pot with a lid and let it simmer for about 20 minutes or until potatoes are fork-tender (test by sticking a fork in the potatoe and if it goes right through, then they’re done. If not, continue to cook).

Step 2: Mash The Potatoes Drain the water from the pot leaving just enough water so that the potatoes are just covered. Return to low heat. Add butter(or margarine) and mash with a potato masher or electric mixer/potato masher to desired consistency. Slowly add milk or cream while mashing until you achieve your desired consistency. Stir well! Serve up your mashed potatoes warm with gravy on top! *Note: If you prefer lumpy mashed potatoes, simply don’t use an electric mixer but instead use a potato masher to mash the potatoes. If

you want your potatoes super creamy, use an electric mixer or whip them with a whip. You can also add 1 tsp of white pepper if desired before serving!
